Regarding emotions as biology I quibble with Pirsig too. The levels
raise the former's patterns to a higher value plane, thus the biological
level (its purpose compressed into  "survival") surely has a lot of
survival techniques.

How's about considering 'emotions' as 'inner feelings'? As close to the
'intellect level' as you can get it...and talking of a survival technique!!!
Brilliant!.
And so immediately destructive (the intellect I mean). Nothing but funeral
processions...as Silvia remarked (from an emotional point of view).This is
the 'romantic' side of intellect which was never forgotten. Transmitted
through the generations. Nothing purely biological or social about this.
This is a rational response to an irrational situation.
