To teach quality generally can only be done by teaching the MOQ.

Oh dear, so all the bleeding hearts and artists and mystics...(and Sophists), all had advanced copies did they?

dmb says:

That's right. After the editors at Bantam Books polished it up, Pirsig grabbed a few copies of Lila (translated into the proto-Indo-European mother tongue, of course) and stepped into a time machine. It's a good thing too. Without that help, Lao Tsu would have become an insurance salesman, the Buddha would have been a tax attorney, the Sophists would have been teaching table manners and El Greco would have never seen the dharmakaya light. Probably would've painted puppies and stuff.

Remember the writing lesson that came down to one brick on the face of the Opera House in Bozeman? The student needed to learn something about scope and focus but the thing that really made it work was that it made her be for real. There was no way to imitate or pose or fake it. Who ever wrote or said anything about Opera House bricks? She HAD to be herself. Bullshitting just wasn't a realistic option. She had to look at the brick for a while. She had to know something about the brick itself, not what somebody else said about it or wrote about it. There weren't even rumors to by on. Damn boring bricks.
