Theism is not supported in the MOQ, but Pirsig does acknowledge theism, rather early on too. Join me at Page 31 of ZMM. "Laws of nature are human inventions, like ghosts. Laws of logic, of mathematics are also human inventions, like ghosts. The whole blessed thing is a human invention, including the idea it isn't a human invention. The world has no existence whatsoever outside the human imagination. It's all a ghost, and in antiquity was so recognized as a ghost, the whole blessed world we live in. It's run by ghosts. We see what we see because these ghosts show it to us, ghosts of Moses and Christ and the Buddha, and Plato, and Descartes, and Rousseau and Jefferson and Lincoln, on and on and on..." We see early recognition of our social creations, which Pirsig cordially put in their distinct place. One could perceive we believe in 'ghosts' ,such as the MOQ, simply because it just makes more sense than other options. How dependent are humans upon 'ghosts'? Is this a need, to have
ghosts? In our socially constructed society it is a need to be aware of them in reference to making any decision. Can you imagine elimination of all 'ghosts' ? Any decision I make requires knowledge of the then 'ghosts', including this form of communication I am using now which contains many 'ghosts'. Therefore we know that in earlier times of our civilization, key decisions have been made with 'ghosts' in highest priority. There is no doubt, that we would not be where we presently exist, without these ideas. Pg 29 of ZMM contains, "...Those Indians and medieval men were just as intelligent as we are, but the context in which they thought was completely different. Within that context of thought, ghosts and spirits are quite as real as atoms, particles, photons and quants are to a modern man..." Pirsig honors theism due to the reason of the context in which we have had to live has required the acceptance of these ideas. Theism is one way we installed human preservation while at the
same time fulfilling the then general-ideal concerns. Suggesting that notable principles within major religions such as peace, justice, and not stealing, are 'ghosts' created out of human dignity, not to mention the terrified social compact reserved for humans. So you ask where is theism within the MOQ? We can safely say that the MOQ does not possess a form of theism. However, when we ask how the MOQ rates theism, we go back to the circumstance of which context we had to think within that orderly preserves humans (giving each person better chances of surviving) that also fulfilled the then present ideal 'virtues', and way back when we lived as animals, theism was of high quality, for it fulfilled more positivity of the then general-ideal concerns. Though in our present context, theism is of lesser quality due to contradictions with our established principles, and they do not create positivity when one attempts to correlate theism to our present strongly-understood ghosts, for
instance the state has a monopoly on violence which preserves humans better. Within ZMM, Pirsig graciously saluted theism for the difference(rated as mu) it has made, while completely dismissing theism. Chiefly since the existence of these ideas are no longer needed to the extent they once were for the high-priority ideas of human preservation and satisfying the then general values((hence this very discussion of evolving beyond static chains placed upon our society by none other than ourselves.))

  -----------------------------------------
A quality that I adore of the MOQ, is its ability to cleanly divide between the positive-contributing aspects as well as the negative-contributing aspects that pertain to any particular circumstance. Illustrated here with theism, which transforms its quality sloely in respect to a single variable (though it is large), of the time range it is rated beside.
